Replacement Upvc Door Handles Explained In Less Than 140 Characters
Replacement UPVC Door Handles
Whether you're replacing your handles or want to add a bit of extra security, you'll find the right handle for your door. Upvc handles are simple to install and conform to the required 92mm centres for multipoint locks.
The backplate fixing center and the lever/keyhole dimensions are the most important measurements. Check these measurements against your current marks before ordering.
Lever/Pad
Lever pad handles consist of a lever on one side and a paddle-shaped handle on the opposite. They are intended for use with key wind locks. However they can also be attached to multipoint split spindle door locks.
Our selection of upvc handle lever pads are available in a wide range of finishes. They will be listed in the drop-down list after you have selected the right handle for your door. Certain styles of handles are not available in all finishes. It is recommended to check the technical drawing and dimensions for the product you are looking for to ensure that you receive the correct size and fit.
It is crucial that when choosing a new set of Upvc lever pad handles, they are in line with the PZ (distance from the spindle of the handle to the center of the hole of the cylinder) of your multipoint door locks. This is because these need to be aligned in order so that the doors remain locked, no matter if you're looking from the inside or from the outside. Our handles are designed to fit a wide range of standard cylinders, but it is a good idea to double-check before ordering.
You'll need to take off your handles that you have already installed and then dismantle the lock case if you are upgrading to dual spindle levers for your handle as this will require a split cylinder inline. They can be purchased separately and we have the complete technical diagram for you to take a look at in the pictures for each product.
Once you have removed the screws that are holding the door handle you have, it is recommended to loosen them and inspect the mechanism to see the condition it is in. If the screws aren't loose enough then you might need to loosen them further. Then you can remove the spindle from the handle and replace it with a new Upvc handle. Before screwing the handle into position, it is recommended to check that it is in the right place. You can do this by inserting your finger into the gap between the frame of the door and the handle to ensure that it is level.
Lever/Lever
The lever door handles are used to operate a multi-point lock using a Euro cylinder. They can be located on many double upvc doors as well as aluminium and wooden doors. They are equipped with an inside lever and an outside paddle and are typically available in two types. Sprung - they come with a spring cassette within the backplate to help move the handle lever to the horizontal position. Non-sprung: These do NOT include a mechanism that can spring the handle lever to a horizontal position.
To fix the door handle of a lever that is sagging you must locate the detent access hole or pin, which is usually a small rectangle or round shape hole or protruding pin that is located on the opposite side of the base plate. Once you have located the hole for accessing the detent or pin, you can remove it with an screwdriver.
After the handle is positioned horizontally, you can reinstall the screws. Make sure to tighten them so that the handle is securely attached to the base plate. Consider applying a threadlocking product to the threads of screws to increase grip and stop them from loosening over time.
There are a myriad of reasons why lever door handles slide. The most common cause is that the fixings are over tightened and are putting strain on the bearings of the lever, causing it to bind against the door's face. It could also be that the levers haven't been adjusted at the right angle, which stretches the latch mechanism and stops it from fully springing into action.
The most common reason for a spring lever not operating correctly is the spring not being in the proper position on the backplate. To check whether the handle has returned to horizontal, simply move it.
If your door handles are loose it is crucial to find the issue quickly, since this could lead to excessive wear on the screws and eventually to the handle falling off the base plate. It is also recommended to tighten any loose screws on a regular basis to stop them from becoming looser.
Lever/Snib
The handles for doors made of upvc are also known as 'Snib' handle sets and have a snib button towards the top of the lever that you can press down to lock your door if you don't have an Dummy lock. These handles come with a Fullex lock 68PZ. (68mm between the spindle and lock centre). We also stock a range of 68PZ door handle from manufacturers like Ferco and Fab & Fix.
You can make your home more modern by changing the door handles regardless of whether you're replacing existing handles or installing new ones on doors that you've built. There are a variety of styles available for upvc door handles, including the classic lever on backplate. Other options include straight or curly short latches as well as Dummy knobs for multi-point locks. These are great for French doors.
Lever on backplate handles are often rectangular in shape but there are also circular or oval shaped models that are referred to as rose door handles. These kinds of door handles are equipped with a lever or knob on a backplate, which sits behind the knob or lever and is often referred to as a rosette. However, some back plates can be removed to allow for concealed fixing.
There's a wide selection of coloured and chrome finishes for these handles to complement your door and other hardware, such as hinges, knobs, bolts and so on. Some handles have a grub screw to attach the knob or lever securely to the spindle. Some handles come with bathroom spindles which are suitable for bathroom locks. They also come with an release mechanism that turns the thumb and can be used on bathroom doors.
Mortise
The tubular latch is the most likely to be the cause of this in the event that your door handle is stuck open. There may be a few reasons for this, the most common being the simple lack of lubrication on the latch plate. It is possible to fix this problem by opening the door and spraying lubricant onto the handle and lock. Or, it could be that the latch plate is dislodged from the backplate. This is a more difficult issue that requires the assistance of a specialist.
A multipoint handle is the ideal solution for a stuck door handle. These handles are mounted through the faceplate and operated with the use of a key or thumb turn knob which activates the cam that locks the deadbolt. The handles are available in a number of sizes that will fit various kinds of uPVC doors. They are also available in a variety of attractive finishes to match the hardware you already have. These handles can be purchased on the internet or through a local locksmith and are easy to install with clear instructions.
You will need to know the PZ size of your cylinder in order to select the appropriate replacement handle set. This is the distance from the edge of the frame of the door to the central edge of the hole in the handle in millimetres. You'll also require the type of lock that is installed on your door, irrespective of whether it's a mortise lock or a hook lock. Once you know these measurements, the easiest way to find the correct handles is to filter by brand option on the website. This will help you narrow down your options and then you'll be able to select the correct size.
A typical handle set comes with the handle unit with a pair of various length screws drilling guides, as well as installation instructions. Smarter versions, such as the Igloohome Smart Mortise 2+ include a mortice lock with keypad. These are more complex devices and are best suited to professional installers or adept DIYers. Some handle sets have various additional accessories, such as weather strips that can be used to improve the look of the door.
