How to Unlock your Vehicle
Modern electronic key fobs offer superior convenience and functionality compared to a manual key. However, they do require batteries that eventually get worn out and need to be replaced. If your Volvo key fob is beginning to work intermittently, that's an indication that the battery is failing and will need to be replaced soon.
There are easy steps you can follow to replace your Volvo key fob battery at your own expense. First, locate a clean work surface to perform the procedure. Make a list of all the tools you'll need. Find the battery hatch, and open it using the flathead, a coin, or other similar tool. After that, carefully remove the battery by lifting the side closest to the hook on the key-ring. Make sure you wear rubber gloves to avoid damaging the contacts or the clips.
After the battery has been removed, put the new one into its socket. Make sure that the positive side is facing up and that it is seated in all the clips. Slide the cover towards the key-ring portion until it becomes loose, and falls off. Then, remove the cover and reveal the mechanical key blade inside. This will be used to unlock your car by the driver's side doors when the battery of your key fob is dead or missing.
How to Start Your Vehicle
Modern vehicles come with keyfobs that do more than simply unlock and lock the doors. They also have other useful functions like summoning and auto parking the vehicle. In fact, the newest Volvo XC60 can even remotely start the engine using key fob buttons. But what exactly is it that works?
First, locate an area of clean work surface on which you can lay out all the necessary items for this project. Place the fob on the surface, with the Volvo logo facing upwards. Then utilize a flathead screwdriver or coin or similar device to switch the battery hatch from the open position. Avoid touching the electronic contact surfaces with your tools. This could cause the fob to stop working properly.
When the hatch is opened and the battery is in its socket, making sure it is in the correct position with the positive (+) side facing upwards. Once the clips are locked into place, replace the battery cover and then reassemble the fob.
Pressing the unlock button one time will turn off the alarm and unlock the driver door. If you press it again and you will be able to unlock all doors as well as the tailgate. The unlock button can also be useful for rolling down the windows to let in cool, fresh air on a hot summer's day. If you'd like to go further than that, the keyfob can be used to trigger the ERS system, which will start the climate control system in your vehicle. It will warm or cool the vehicle to desired temperature levels while the vehicle is parked.
How to Replace the Battery
If your key fob no long locks or unlocks your vehicle It could be the time to replace the battery. Change the battery is easy and requires only a small screwdriver that is flat or a plastic pry bar tool. First find the small slot in which the backup or emergency metal ignition key used to be. Insert the blade of your screwdriver or pry bar tool into this slot and gently open the rear of the fob for the key. Once you have opened the fob, locate and remove the CR 2032 3V battery.
