Why Fridges Isn't A Topic That People Are Interested In.
How to Keep Your Fridge Running Smoothly
Refrigerators come in an variety of shapes and sizes. They can be tucked away in tight areas, like dorm rooms.
Some models also sync with smart devices. They allow you to monitor your fridge remotely and help you fix any issues that may occur. You can also make use of voice commands to control them.
Noise
Refrigerators can emit a variety of sounds while operating, and some are more obvious than others. Before contacting a refrigerator repair service, try to identify the source of any sounds you hear.
Rattling
The fridge could rattle if there is not enough space between it and the wall or cabinet or if its sitting at an unlevel angle. This is a simple repair - all you need to do is make sure there's at least a couple of inches of space on either side and then adjust the legs of your fridge or leveling screws to raise or lower it accordingly.
Hissing
The compressor may hiss when cooling your food. This is a normal sound and it is caused by the compressor oil or refrigerant through the system. If you're concerned, time how often the compressor is running and contact a refrigerator repair service immediately if it does so more often than normal.
Squeaking
Fridges may be noisy if their coils or fans are dirty. If you hear a squeaking sound from your refrigerator, you can use the brush attachment of a vacuum cleaner along with a rag and dish soap or water along with warm water to clean the fan and coils. It's important to do this twice a year and more frequently if your fridge is older or is used frequently.
Clicking
A clicking sound may be heard from a refrigerator. This is usually caused by frozen air around the freezer fan. This can be resolved with a manual defrost, but will likely return until the issue is resolved by a service professional.
If you hear clicking, turn the refrigerator back on. If you have an ice maker attached to your fridge, this sound could be caused by it. Make sure you turn it off when aren't using ice regularly.
The hum of your refrigerator is normal. It may get more intense during certain times of day, and also after heavy stockings or intense freezer functions. This is because the refrigerator has to perform more efficiently and faster to keep your food cold, but it is not an indication of a problem with the refrigerator or its performance.
Dust
Household dust is a magnet for dirt, bacteria and other microorganisms and also traces of everyday household chemical exposures. The tiny particles can be inhaled and elicit allergic reactions, and can provide a great surface for microbes to colonize, including some that may cause infections when they come in contact with a wound.
It's impossible to clean a fridge completely however, regular cleaning can reduce the accumulation of dust and keep the temperature consistent. A fridge that is dirty uses up energy because it overheats, and is inefficient. If your fridge is producing more noise than usual, or If you suspect that it is wasting energy by overworking it might be time to get it checked out.
In contrast to other airborne particles, dust doesn't just drift in from the outside it is believed. It contains resuspended soil from the house, which is often tainted with lead and other toxicants, along with pollen, mold spores and car exhaust. It also retains legacy pollutants such as DDT which were banned more than half decades ago.
Certain compounds, such as flame retardants such as decabromodiphenylether, are able to be dissolved into the air. However, the majority of chemicals in dust come from objects that are thrown off, for example, electronic equipment. High-molecular-weight substances, such as surfactants used in cleaners and paint strippers, also migrate directly into dust.
Apart from contaminating the food in the refrigerator, a smoky refrigerator can also affect your health. It can harbor allergens like pet dander and droppings of cockroaches that can trigger asthma attacks and allergies. It also contains bacterial spores, such as staphylococcus aureus, that can cause infections if they find their way into a wound.
Researchers have discovered that a variety of health conditions are linked to contaminated dust, from heart disease to cancer to leukemia and inflammatory bowel diseases. A recent study revealed that the homes of children with leukemia were more likely to have higher levels of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons the PBDEs, and PCBs in their dust than the homes of healthy kids.
Condenser Coils
If refrigerators are operating properly, the coils located on the back and front of the appliance should be able of dispersing the heat generated by the compressor. But when these radiator-like parts are covered in dust, pet hair or lint, the compressor will work overtime trying to cool the fridge, and will eventually wear down the appliance. That's why it's so important to clean the coils regularly.
Before starting, disconnect and shut off the refrigerator's power source. This can lower the risk of electrocuting yourself or your family members while working on the appliance. It's also recommended to wear a protective mask if you are sensitive to dust. You will then need to find the coils. They are usually located in the back of the refrigerator or, in some cases, at the front and at the base. If you are unsure where to find them go through your fridge's owner manual or contact the manufacturer for more details.
After you've located the coils, remove the access panel (if there's one) and alternate between vacuuming them with the hose attachment that is narrow or brushing them with a condenser cleaner brush. Be careful not to risk breaking or bent coils. Replace the kick panel, or move the refrigerator to its place, and connect it to the electrical outlet.
If you aren't comfortable doing this by yourself, you can always hire an expert. It's cheaper and simpler to keep up the cleaning routine in order to avoid the issue.
Maintenance
Fridges are powerful appliances that work all day to cool down your food. To make sure they are doing their job effectively they require regular maintenance. This simple preventive maintenance will keep them running efficiently for many years to come.
One easy thing to do is to wipe down the door seals. cheap fridge for sale can become blocked by jelly and other sticky food items, allowing air to escape through tiny holes. Every few months, wipe them clean with baking soda solution and warm water with a toothbrush or sponge.
The fan at the rear of the refrigerator is a different location to look at. It can be noisy if it's clogged with paper, insulation or even mice (gasp). Remove the shelves, unplug the refrigerator, and take out all removable parts. Clean the coils and the area around them with the vacuum cleaner using an attachment for a hose. Make sure to turn the fridge on again after you have finished.
It is best to refer to the owner's manual to find out more on how to locate the fan and coils and what cleaning tools you'll need. Also, you should go through the warranty to make sure you understand what's covered.
