Bentley Mulsanne Key Celebrates Its Centenary

Mulliner Bentley's coachbuilding unit bespoke, has created a unique keycase to mark the 100th anniversary of the Bentley brand. It is made from Dark stained Walnut with Piano Black Veneer and includes the flying "B" paperweight, keys, and an original 1930s booklet that features never-before-seen 1930s 8 Litre images.

This is a great way to greet a new vehicle owner.

Aesthetics

Bentley is a company which takes its aesthetics seriously. It shows in the precision positioning of its quilting, the selection of leather from cattle by-products, the wood from sustainably managed forests and the innovative patterns on its levers. When you drive by a car like the Continental GT W12, its stunning design is accentuated by carefully curated lighting.

The Continental GT is the most sophisticated open-top Bentley ever created. Its rear tonneau, as an example, showcased the largest piece of dark-stained, book-matched Burr Walnut veneer ever applied to the production Bentley. Similarly, the electrically-operated glass sunroof and champagne cooler that incorporated hand-blown and hand-cut lead crystal bottles marked a new benchmark in luxury and innovation.

It is this bespoke design, attention to detail and craftsmanship to detail that have established Bentley as the most sought-after automotive brand. The company continues to push the limits with the latest technology and manufacturing techniques, such as the introduction of an instrument cluster with digital technology and an electric tilt-opening rear glass sunroof, a custom-designed docking station for Apple iPads and electrochromic smart glass that can be switched between opaque and transparent at the touch of an arrow.

A century after its founding, Bentley - now under sole Volkswagen ownership after years of fighting with BMW - celebrated its centenary in the year 2019. Before the pandemic planning took the center stage, the company held a series of special events and launches planned to mark the occasion.

Design

Bentley is famous for its extravagant and luxurious automobiles however, even keys are designed to make a statement. The Bentayga key is made from sterling silver and features an enormous 'B' design that lets everyone know you're driving a Bentley. The key is also embossed with the dates 1919 and 2019 to mark the company’s centenary.

The Mulsanne was redesigned and improved by Bentley Mulliner to be the ultimate Grand Touring car. It has two opposing pairs of rear seats designed to be reminiscent of luxury private aviation, providing passengers with unparalleled comfort and security. The customized heating, ventilation, and air conditioning system was designed to provide each passenger with the ideal temperature control.

The Mulsanne comes with twin turbocharged 6.75 litre W12 engine that generates 560bhp, and 479lb-ft of torque. This incredible power is complemented by a revolutionary suspension design that offers Bentley's signature hushed ride.

In celebration of its Centenary, Bentley introduced a specific specification that is known as the Centenary Specification for cars that were built in 2019. This includes contrast stitching and cross-stitching in Centenary Gold thread throughout the cabin. The Bentley Wings are embroidered with Centenary Gold on the headrests and seats as well as other areas of the car. This enhances the celebration. The Centenary Specification also includes a custom Bentley keycase to complete the Bentley experience.

Function

The Bentley Mulsanne Key comes with two buttons one of which opens the trunk, and the second that starts the vehicle. The key also has a button to turn on the parking brake. The knob can be used to fold or unfold the mirrors when parked in a tight spot. This feature makes it easier to get in and out of your vehicle.

Each key takes two days to make. The key is cut by hand, then shaped, stitched to seal, and polished to achieve a high-quality result. It is robust and compact, and will fit the Bentley key perfectly. Its design is similar with the Volkswagen Phaeton's huge car key, but it feels more heavy and premium.

It also has Secure-A-Key, which helps prevent theft of keys that are keyless. This device is inserted into the remote-control fob and then shuts it off when the key has not been utilized for a period of a few minutes. It stops thieves from transmitting the key's frequency to other devices which can unlock and start the vehicle.

Bentley's unique design is a reflection of the values of the company that include fine craftsmanship, engineering expertise and the latest technologies. Over 4,000 employees work at its Crewe headquarters, and are responsible for the development, design, and production of Bentley cars. These workers apply skills handed down for generations and apply them to cutting-edge technology in the automotive industry. This is the characteristic of British manufacturing at its finest.

Personalisation

Bentley's Mulliner division allows customers to create their own car. The "mood station" allows customers to choose images that inspire them. They can choose anything from beautiful landscapes to sporting events. Each time a selection is made the pattern that emerges reveals the model preference for color, style and design for the personalized Bentley.

The guests receive an individual key case created by hand, which contains the R.F.I.D. enabled key cards. Keys can also be outfitted with Bentley Muliner Personalised Welcome Lamps, which illuminate the door-opening pathway with the owner's name and/or emblem when they arrive at the vehicle.

Bentley estimates that it takes around 500 man hours to design and put together the typical Mulsanne. The unwillingness to embrace modern technology is the primary factor to this time-consuming task. The Crewe factory workers do not make use of a machine to create perfectly-matched cross stitched leather seats. Instead they do it by hand. Drivers must park their vehicles manually, instead of using sensors built into the vehicle to guide them into perpendicular and paralell spots.

The event also saw Bentley displayed its Mulliner personalization capabilities using one of a kind that was the Mulsanne W.O. bentley key price , which pays tribute to founder William Osler Bentley. The 100 limited edition cars come with a key that displays the 1930 8 Litre crankshaft.
