What's The Ugly Truth About Best Robot Vacuums
Best Robot Vacuums and Mop Combos

A robot vacuum is a great device to keep a clean home. It will remove dust, pet hair and other debris from the surface before it becomes a larger problem.

Certain robots can connect to smart assistants such as Alexa or Google Assistant to provide a hands-free experience. Look for models that can recharge and resume cleaning the area they left.

1. iRobot S8

This smart robot mop and vacuum combo is an excellent choice for many households. It comes with a fantastic navigation system that includes GPS and laser sensors. It also comes with many features and controls accessible via the app. It also comes with a useful feature that allows you to add Cleaning zones for certain areas that require extra attention and Keep Out zones where you don't want it to move. And, like all Roomba devices, it gets new software updates that make it even better over time.

It's expensive but is also one of the most sophisticated robot vacuums ZDNet has ever tested. It comes with a powerful battery that can clean a large home in under two hours. Additionally, it can switch between mopping and vacuuming with the press of one button. It automatically emptys the dust bin above its charging station, in contrast to other self emptying robots which require you to empty it after every run.

It has a wide range of other features that make it an excellent choice for homes with a lot of space with its intelligent obstacle avoidance that uses the camera as well as processor-powered smarts to see obstacles. It's not often tripped or stuck during a cleaning cycle. In my tests it was the most effective at avoiding objects like power cables. It is not as accurate in detecting pet waste or other hazards.

2. Eufy RoboVac X8 Hybrid

Eufy is owned by Anker is now an established brand in the world of robots that are budget-friendly vacuums. However, it did not offer a model that could also mop. That's changed with the X8 Hybrid, which has an impressive suite of advanced features and is able to compete against more expensive models.

vacuum mop cleaner robot is the primary selling point of this machine. The previous Eufy devices have built up a rough map of your home by using infrared sensors and bumping into objects but the X8's laser mapping system is much more accurate. It also takes significantly less time to build up an accurate map of your space and stores multiple maps, which is great for multi-floor homes.

The X8 is a decent vacuum cleaner on bare floors. It is able to effortlessly sling debris through the side brushes and into its 400ml dustbin. The X8's tyres, despite having a circular shape, are very adept at grabbing edges and corners. It's not a great kitty litter picker, though our tests have shown it only removes about 90 percent of the fur off hard floors.

The basic mopping mode utilizes the same water reservoir as the vacuuming mode. This is ideal for spills that are not too serious, but you cannot regulate the amount of water it uses. It does a good job in removing hair from pets. It has a higher pick-up rate than the Roborock S7.

3. Miele RX2

Miele's RX2 robotic vacuum is renowned for its quiet, efficient appliances. It features a stunning design, superb navigation, and excellent cleaning power. But it has a few operational oddities that keep it from ranking as the top overall smart robot vacuum.

Like iRobot's latest models and models, the RX2 features dual-sensor mapping that uses an LIDAR sensor to map out a room and a pair of 3D scanning cameras to detect and avoid obstacles (like furniture legs or pet waste) in real time. Once the room is mapped the app allows you to designate virtual no-go zones and favorite sections that the robot will clean automatically. You can also start a manual clean or manually change the cleaning mode, watch live feeds from the onboard cameras, and more on the main screen.

The RX2 has excellent sensors that can detect furniture and other obstructions immediately. Its sweeping and suction power are top of the line cleaning up surface debris from carpets of medium pile and dust in bare floors. It's not the fastest robot on the market. It's not the most efficient climber, and it has problems with transition strips made of metal.

A lot of people purchase a robotic vacuum to enjoy the convenience of setting a schedule on an app and not thinking about it for weeks at a time. It is essential for a robot capable of doing the job, so our ZDNet team has tested and reviewed some of the most popular models to help you pick the right one for your home.

4. Shark ION

This budget robovac that looks just like the other, but comes with some extra features and better performance. Its smart mapping system generates 2D and 3D maps of your home and uses those to navigate and avoid obstacles. It can even detect common obstructions such as furniture legs and power cords in real-time. This combination of sensors along with a bump sensor, and an infrared drop sensor that keeps it away from stairs, makes it one of the most flexible vacuums we've tried.

In our tests, it easily climbed over thick shag rugs and didn't get stuck on them (like the RoboVac 11s or Roomba 690). Its navigation abilities were impressive as well; its composite score in carpet and bare floors beat out the competition and it was able to pick up 98.5 percent of surface pet hair and litter from our laboratory test samples.

The controls are simpler than those of the competition's. There is a cleaning button on the top and you can choose to start it using the app or voice commands using Alexa or Google Assistant. You can also schedule weekly or daily cleanings, set up no-go zones and check the history of cleaning. In a smart dark gray plastics, Ion feels sturdy and looks attractive in your home. Its rear dust bin is accessible for emptying and removing the filter is just as simple.

5. Eufy 11S

Eufy 11S is an excellent option for those looking for a vacuum cleaner that is easy to use and doesn't have any frills at a cost that is low. It's not equipped with some advanced features such as Alexa integration and digital mapping found in more expensive models. If you do not need these features, you could save money.

This robot is easy to set up and use. It does not require a smartphone app or Wi-Fi connection, however it does have a remote control that allows you to select between different modes and alter the suction level. It also allows you to manually take the robovac off on a scheduled cleaning.

In our tests, the 11S was extremely effective in getting rid of pet hair and dirt from hard floors and in carpets with a low pile. Its slim profile made it possible to fit under furniture with low hanging and other items that bulkier robots could not reach. It was also able to easily pass over doorway thresholds and transition from one floor type to another.

The 11S, just like other robots, will also eat certain objects, like cords and cat toys. The manufacturer suggests that you prevent this from happening by keeping these objects off the ground and using a cord organizer when you can. It also suggests that you periodically clean the dustbin, replace the filters and wash or change the brushes when required.

iRobot Roomba 990

The Roomba is iRobot's flagship robot vacuum. It's pricey, but it's also the most powerful robot vacuum you can purchase. Its self-navigation feature and environmental mapping is a marvel to behold. It also comes with more advanced automation features than its competitors, including the ability to create virtual boundary markers through its mobile application. Although the app isn't the most responsive, and the 980 does spin a bit when crossing cables, it's still an extremely efficient robot vacuum.

One thing we love about the 980 is that it uses its iAdapt 2.0 navigation sensors and its visual simultaneous localisation and mapping technology (or vSLAM) to remember the floor plan of your home. It then uses this information to design an efficient and consistent cleaning path for each cycle. The result is cleaner floors and a cleaner vacuum than other high-end robot vacuums.

Other features include dual multi-surface rubber brushes that pick up dirt from carpets and hard floors and the spinning brush that sweeps debris into the bin of the robotic vacuum. The sensor for floor tracking assists it in maneuvering between furniture, along edges and up stairs. Cliff Detect prevents the Roomba from falling. It will automatically return to its base station to ensure hassle-free recharges between sessions. Although the 980's battery life and bin size aren't as efficient as some other robot vacuums, it's a reliable and solid machine that can keep your floors clean for hours on end.
