We've all experienced that moment when we reach in the back seat to take off a child's car seat and fail. It's embarrassing and frustrating. happens to everyone.

Keys

Car keys lost are common and can be a pain to deal with, but getting an alternative key from a dealer can be expensive. UK Auto Locksmiths will offer an alternative that is less expensive and the most recent tools and software to assist. To allow them to perform the job, you'll only need a VIN and proof of ownership. They'll also have to know the type of key that you require. They can provide flip keys, remotes and even Fobs. They will also be equipped to assist you in the programming of any new keys.

Remotes

Most Seat drivers keep a spare remote in the house or garage, but when they lose it getting replacement keys from a dealer is expensive and time consuming. This is because most dealers will programme the key using the car's computer which will need to be reset. However, many people buy second-hand keys off the internet that are not programmed to their car. This can be a much cheaper alternative to going to the dealer. But, these key will not start the car because they will not have a transponder chip inside them. You can see the chip (yellow) in this picture below, it is a Dual Inline Package or DIP 18 pin chip. There are also a diode, transistor and resonator, all these parts make up the key's circuit.

Immobilisers

Since car immobilisers became popular in the late nineties, car thefts began to drop, but thieves are smart and constantly looking for ways around security systems. The first immobilisers could be avoided by using a scanner to locate the chip's coding and then copying it onto a blank key. But the technology has advanced and thieves have had to devise new tricks.

Luckily, the majority immobilisers we supply and install are Thatcham Cat 2 certified. The Thatcham Research organisation has tested and certified them. This not-for-profit organisation is the grading system and approval system for aftermarket alarms and security devices, including car immobilisers.

When seat key approved system is activated it will send a signal to the Engine Management System (EMS) of the vehicle. This will stop the motor from running without the correct key. This means that if the car is "hot wired" after entry the engine will be stop working within 30 seconds, rendering it impossible to start.

Of course, like an electronic device, the immobiliser could develop problems and sometimes the battery inside or the key fob could require replacement. It is recommended to have a professional do the work to make sure that everything is installed correctly and is working.

Transponders

A transponder is a device that sends back an identifying signal when interrogated. This helps maintain separation between aircraft and identifies an aircraft to air traffic controllers if it is using an active radar system. The information that is transmitted by the transponder is different based on the kind of system used.

Transponders can also be found in spacecraft and satellites to connect with Earth systems, such as cell phone networks or other networks for communication. These devices receive signals at a range frequencies and then retransmit the signals in a different frequency similar to how repeaters in terrestrial cell phone networks work.

The most sophisticated passive transponders are typically located on aircrafts. They monitor flight status and provide information about navigation such as the aircraft's location speed, altitude, and speed. Air traffic controllers use the information from these transponders to control the flight path and ensure security.

Many keys for personal use have transponder chips in addition to aircraft transponders. These chips are non-active and do not require batteries. This allows the ECU to read the signal from the transponder when it's installed in the ignition lock.

Most airplanes have a switch on the flight deck, which allows pilots to turn on and off their transponders. They can also select an "ident" mode that allows the transponder's unique squawk number and help it stand out on a busy air traffic control screens.
