15 Amazing Facts About Private ADHD Titration You've Never Heard Of
Private ADHD Titration
There is currently a national shortage of medication to treat ADHD symptoms. This is due to manufacturing problems and the growing demand for ADHD medications worldwide.
Our service can offer private ADHD treatment as an alternative to waiting for NHS funding through Right to Choose. Our assessments cost include the cost of one prescription.
Titration
A highly experienced consultant psychiatrist will conduct a thorough evaluation of your ADHD. This includes a complete medical history, as well as an assessment using the standard ADHD questionnaires and rating scales.
After your evaluation, you will be advised that medication may be beneficial in your case. This will be discussed at your follow-up appointment (which could be in person, via video link or by phone). Your clinician will explain the different options available for you to take medication and, if you decide to begin taking medication, we will recommend titrating the dose to optimise the balance of benefits and side effects for you.
This process may take a few weeks and involves gradually adjusting your child's dosage until the proper balance is achieved. It is not unusual to have to titrate several times before finding the one that is best for your child's ADHD symptoms. It is essential for parents to take part in this process of titration and keep a close watchful eye on their child's behavior to inform the doctor whether the medication is working or causing side effects.
If you decide to go back to NHS treatment, you will receive a private prescription for your medication. You will be required to pay the pharmacy. This is not included in the consultation fee. Iam Psychiatry will need to keep up with your appointments every six months to monitor your medication. This includes pulse and blood pressure measurements. Annual reviews are also required.
Follow-up appointments
Once the assessment is completed after the assessment is completed, you can make appointment with the psychiatrist. The appointment usually takes place on zoom video call, although in certain cases it is possible to have an audio-only consultation (again at an extra cost).
At this point we will discuss treatment options and agree upon a bespoke individualised ADHD medication titration program. This will include a review and discussion of your medication dosage and any side effects you may be experiencing. These titration sessions cost PS150 for face-to-face sessions, and PS60 via video or telephone consultation. Medication costs are additional and are paid directly to the pharmacy.
The psychiatrist will ask questions about your family history as well as the impact of your ADHD symptoms on your daily life and any mental health issues you may be experiencing. This is because ADHD can be a genetic condition and it is essential to look into any family history that may indicate whether you are at risk of developing the disorder.
It is essential to be honest and open with the clinician during this assessment, as the information they get will be used to determine whether your ADHD is in line with the diagnostic criteria. This is a crucial step in the process, because if you don't do it, it could result in an incorrect diagnosis, and thus an incorrect prescribing of medication.
If you decide to receive treatment for ADHD we'll schedule a follow-up appointment with a psychiatrist that is skilled in this area. If you'd like to start treatment right away, you can do this immediately following the diagnosis. You can also take two weeks to think about the implications of the diagnosis and your options.
If you aren't sure what your preference is it is recommended that you speak to your GP prior to booking your private examination as some providers have different policies regarding whether they require a GP referral letter or not. We also suggest that you check whether your GP accepts a "Shared-Care Agreement that means that once discharged from the clinic you will be returned to them for the medication prescription.
Medication
For many people who want a private diagnosis of ADHD medication is a key aspect of their journey. Finding prescriptions from an NHS psychiatrist can be a challenge and long-winded. NHS waiting lists can be extremely long, and GPs may be reluctant to refer patients to specialist services.
Requesting your GP to refer you to Right to Choose is one way to avoid this (see psychiatry UK and ADHD 360). This means that you can choose a provider that offers a private assessment and titration service. This can reduce your wait time considerably and can be more convenient when you are working and have a busy schedule.
If you are referred through this route your chosen doctor will assess you and decide whether or not you're required to be titrated on medication. You will be asked to fill out forms that differ by doctor but the most common ones are self-report questionnaires as well as medical histories from childhood and adulthood. These forms will allow your doctor to determine if there are any reasons that suggest that you shouldn't be taking ADHD medications, when they've been prescribed.
If you are being titrated the medication will consist of a mixture of stimulants and nonstimulant medications. These will be carefully tested and monitored to find the best combination for you. The titration procedure can be long and may require a number of additional appointments before you are stable.
Depending on the type of medication you're taking, follow-up appointments could be scheduled monthly or quarterly. Your doctor will ensure whether you are safe with the medication, note any side effects that you have experienced and make any necessary adjustments to ensure you remain on a safe dosage. You are required to attend an annual health check-up and regular health check-up that includes blood pressure, pulse, and weight measurements.
Some patients may be content with their medication, and therefore do not have to discuss their titration further. If, however, they do need further discussions about the titration process and treatment plan, it's possible to be passed back to the same private clinic that conducted their initial assessment. In this case the titration will be included in the consultation cost. The medication will then be provided through the private prescription. This can cost more than prescriptions from the NHS, as the pharmacy will charge you for the medication.
